Autonomous ready navigation solution overcomes traversability issues Road networks are no longer needed for smooth route planning
NNG
09 Jan, 2019
Las Vegas, 9th January 2019 – NNG, a market leader in automotive location-based solutions, today announced the expansion of its navigation portfolio by offering Off-Road Navigation solutions, specialized for areas where no road network of any sort is available.
This is an innovation unprecedented for civil use previously.
The solution operates by using aerial imaging and orthophotos: The area between the starting point and the destination is assessed by the system, and based on the images, a route is planned that is the most suitable for the individual vehicle and its abilities. Designed with autonomous vehicles in mind, the route plan can be fine-tuned on the go using AI technology and camera sensors to complement the aerial imagery with data about the surroundings, making changes if needed. This means, it can suggest alternate routes should any unforeseen circumstances arise, such as a flock of animals or an overflowing stream.

The newly announced product is introduced and demonstrated at CES2019 and is ready for implementation.
