Sometimes it only takes six words to express an idea. In NNG Future Vision we present a monthly short story – written in only six words – which explores a different segment of NNG’s expertise: Automotive Cyber Security, Vehicle User Experience, and Location-Based Services.
Some of the stories are based on best guesses, others informed opinion. Many are pure science fiction, but all of them are designed to set your imagination on fire and get you thinking about all the future possibilities open to the automotive industry.
The stories are based on ideas drawn from our colleagues throughout NNG Group. We pride ourselves on thinking far and wide, looking to our dreams of the future to imagine what might be possible. What can we build today that can help us get there? At NNG it’s the journey that matters.
Each story is accompanied by a picture that illustrates the idea, and a short blog post examining the theme of the story and what it could mean for the future of the automotive industry.

For connected cars, cyber-security is quickly becoming a necessity. Already, in today’s world, we are seeing an alarming increase in attacks. How will innovation in automated vehicles, intelligent transport systems, navigation, augmented reality, and infotainment be impacted if hackers can gain unimpeded access to a vehicle’s interior networks or critical connected infrastructure?

Imagining the vehicle user experience (UX) of the future is an exciting exercise. We can’t say for certain how connectivity and automation are going to change the way we interact with our vehicles, but we can make some educated guesses. What is clear is that the future design of vehicles, and how we interact with them is going to be heavily influenced by how they integrate with our existing digital ecosystems.

We are living on the verge of a revolution in how we perceive data connectivity. From constellations of satellites (broadening reach and backhaul provision for domestic suppliers) to connectivity enabled smart cities and infrastructure. Ubiquitous, cheap data access will further fuel the rise of the internet of things and open a whole host of potential use-cases. For instance, innovation in streaming technology for map data is driving innovation in advanced driver assistance systems and infotainment navigation.
